Bob's Digital Photo Gallery

What Really Matters?

I was reading a magazine article about choosing your digital camera, where I borrowed the title for this page What really maters?  At the same time watching a self-help, A-Channel TV program, featuring author Barbara Sher speaking about, "What makes me happy?" For me, these two different topics fit together so easily.

In choosing a digital camera, if you could clearly define why you want a digital instead of a much cheaper 35 mm film camera, and describe what you will be doing with your photos, you might save yourself a lot of money, and be much happier with your purchase.

In using my digital camera, I have been able to take hundreds more (No thousands more.) photos like the professionals,  and every once in a while I capture a perfect moment, image or memory.

These I have been able to print and share. The process of capturing, printing and sharing is extremely enjoyable.

At an informal gathering recently, I was pointing my telephoto lens at this lady who was in the middle of a conversation. When she glanced my way, I said "Smile." She answered., "For you I will," and continued with her conversation.

For me, as a photographer, who is always taking candid shots almost anywhere, it was a rare moment to have a cooperative subject. WOW!

On the left, is one of those shots that I could anticipate as I watched my granddaughter.

I managed to get into position, and zoom in just in time. It turned out just the way I wanted; and now provides wonderful memories of a great summer day with my granddaughter — one of Jasper's newest mountain climbers.

In hindsight, almost any digital camera would make me happy when I think of how much enjoyment I've had in being able to take thousands of pictures, and being able to share them in so many ways.
