Jasper National Park
Seen here, from the Columbia Icefield Campground located about 1 mile south of the Information
Centre.
This campground often serves as a staging area for climbers and groups learning the many necessary
skills to play safely on the year round snow and ice.
This is a tents only campground. Its a good place for bikers to spend a night. There are
two shelters with wood stoves to help warm you up and dry you out.
Few people stay longer than a day or two. It is often cold and rainy. The massive Columbia Icefield
makes it's own weather here. Its wise to be prepared for quick weather changes, even on short day hikes. I've woken
up to several inches of snow in July and August.
The August snow has contributed to more than few very enjoyable hikes. For some reason, it becomes
a perfect time to wander by myself in the Wilcox. alpine meadows. Few others venture away from the comfort of their
cars or motorhomes.
